Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

They announced more monitoring cuts to all S rivers now…not sure what that means other then even less opportunity. Why do the S rivers all get budget cuts as opposed to other rivers in the puget sound basin or even Columbia tribs?

Now I've recently read that the WDS (Washington Department of Salmon) opened the lower Skagit River to fishing for spring Chinook salmon and that the fishery would be intensively monitored by creel checkers. Then I read that the Skagit River will open early in the upper section from Rockport to Marblemount, also for spring Chinook salmon fishing. And you guessed right! WDS will also be monitoring that salmon fishery with creel checkers. Oh, and reminder; there may be spawning steelhead in that section of the river, so anglers are asked to try to avoid them while salmon fishing. That's just too fvckin' funny!

My conclusion? Any time, any where, there might be a fvcking harvestable salmon in this state, you can bet that WDS will provide whatever monitoring is necessary. But steelhead fishing? Especially CNR steelhead fishing? Oh no, the agency doesn't have the funding to provide fishery monitoring. So the agency solution is to close recreational fishing because that is the most convenient management decision.

I've had it with those rat bastards! Under Occupy Skagit, V. 2.0, the Skagit is open to steelhead and trout fishing whenever and wherever you want to go. While not harming any steelhead or trout (or bull trout), please also try to avoid harming any salmon that may be cohabiting the same section of river you are fishing. Fvck 'em! I'm having a hard time believing the agency is so lacking in self awareness as to be this fvcking dumb.

Yup. They closed it for C&R but opened it for salmon kill so we can fish over steelhead redds. What's next? Hows about a slush fund for convicted poachers that have suffered immeasurable suffering.

Hey! Since the coho run is going to double over last years, does that mean we can fish with two rods? Asking for a friend...
