A bright day for the 2024 castaround. Met lots of old friends and made some new friends. The highlights for me were: casting a 10'6" 9.5 ounce Payne two hander; casting a 7'9" Mike Clark 5 weight known as the John Gierach special: and casting a surprisingly good 7'6" 4 piece 3 weight bamboo fly rod designed by Mike Monsos.

I've attended what feels like a lot of bamboo rod gatherings and every one of them was pure pleasure and it's all down to the people who attend to share their rods and experiences, knowledge, thoughts and adventures.

At every such event there is one or maybe two rods that stand out from the rest and leaves a lasting impression by the way it feels and performs. For me it was hands down the Bob Summers #275 7'6" for #4 Line. A totally coherent rod. Smooth as silk, effortless with a very positive turnover. Just the way I like em.
