Northern BC & Yukon

I’ve gone back to northern British Columbia at the lodge on Muncho Lake…Northern Rockies Adventures. Spent the night in Vancouver last Saturday, then headed to Pitt Meadows regional airport to take a twin prop plane to Fort Nelson…unloaded the plane and transported by van for the 2.5 hour road trip to Muncho Lake.

This adventurous dude came from Barrow AK and stopped in Fort Nelson to refuel…its a single seater, he is on his way to NY…AV fuel is costing him $100 an hour of flying…

Grilled most meals…but also sautéed onions & bell peppers to go with the fresh andouille & smoked pork I bought at this little place halfway up to Muncho lake…the leftover sausage and smoked pork went into a soup the next day…

I don't know if it was the lake water or being in the middle of nowhere, but it might be the best pot of soup I ever made…
 
You need to clean that grill.
 
When I was fishing in Alaska, I thought it would be fun to add pike to my list of fish caught. I was disabused of that in short order. After catching a few and realizing how God awful they stink, I didn't want to touch one again. So when I saw a large one, I cast out a deer hair mouse to tease it. Then when it charged, I snatched it away at the last second.

Or slimy …yet I still enjoy hooking them. I have hooked them on a mouse in AK…

After fishing the mouth, then hiking a decent distance up river, we decided to call it quits and head to a different destination. The river was cold, and three feet higher than when I fished it last year…it was too early to fish this river…the fish were still in the lake.

We ended up at Frog Lake…I fished an inlet where a large stream entered the lake…after hooking several large grayling, small lake trout showed up, scaring away the graying…which became more fun to catch on the 4wt. I switched over to a 6wt and sinking line, and caught a dozen more lake trout…they were almost black and much darker than anywhere else Ive caught them. The gentleman second from the right is Urs, the owner of the lodge & main pilot…he found most of the spots and built the outpost cabins over the last 40 years
