All mentors are not the same.

Basically, it was a youth hunting weekend. They( the mentor) saw something moving in the bush and decided to have the 3yr old shoot it and find out what it is later. It was not a turkey , it was a man and his youth hunting partner.
Luckily they were shot in the back of their heads and not in their faces.

Had a hunting buddy in high school who was shot by a member of his own family while deer hunting. Was wearing hunter orange vest and hat. Collapsed lung that required emergency surgery. The ER physicians considered it a miracle he survived and partially credited it to the fact that he was shot with a 30-30 rather than a more powerful rifle and that the bullet had to travel through dense brush.

There may be a crossover population of the same idiots that don't believe in wearing PFDs, bicycle/motorcycle helmets, seat belts, toothbrushes, and vaccines.

In this case, "mentor" = ignorant, careless bastard.

I can't imagine putting a firearm in the hands of any three year old.
Now four...maybe.:rolleyes::ROFLMAO:

Given “Reaping”, the latest craze in turkey hunting involves dressing up like a turkey to simulate a gobbler thus crawling up close, I’m hardly surprised folks get shot. My question is was it a 3 year old, or just someone with the mentality of a 3 year old….

Turkey hunting is the most dangerous type of hunting in several states. Which makes sense because-
1- You can wear camo
2- You shoot heavy tungsten loads using full or modified chokes
3- Turkeys are low to the ground....and so are you.
4- 50% of people that hunt turkeys are idiots!!

Why turkey hunt when you could get better (and safer) shooting in a duck blind. Or watching some awesome gun dogs point or flush upland birds? Or you could go fishing. 😁

Or just buy a big fat butterball of a domestic turkey that tastes much better.

Now cue up the responses...."you just don't know how to prepare it" and/or "it has a wonderful nutty wild natural flavor" (described by non-wild turkey devotees as "nasty gamey tasting meat with a texture similar to 7-11 ancient mystery meat jerky").

The only real advantage to wild turkey (the bird) is once served at a family holiday dinner is that you'll never have to be responsible for providing fare for such occasions ever again!
