NFR 2021-2022 Ski Thread - Let it Snow

Amazing how bad conditions have gotten around here since I last skied. We got 3" of blower on top of boiler plate. Patroller best summed up todays conditions....deceptively dangerous.

Just wrapping up a quick strike to Banff. We scored!

Hopefully this IG post actually shows up... doesn't look like it. Oh well.

We got a nice little storm rolling through tonight/tomorrow. We need it as conditions have completely deteriorated.

I was in Seattle on Saturday, so stopped at White Pass for the first time yesterday morning. The groomed runs were in pretty good shape, but the off-trail areas were as you'd expect after several warm days and no new snow.

I suppose those of you that live around the Cascades get used to the views, but all I can say is... Wow! I love the craggy peaks, and Mount Rainier was on full display.

I'm not an expert skier, but am sure enjoying exploring the different mountains in the NW... quite a lot different than what I had been used to skiing in the Midwest!

Skiing the cascades can be the best anywhere at times

Found some untracked today off Lone Peak. That was cool but the boilerplate substrate is still there. Wife told me there's been lots of broken legs in the hospital the past day or two. Those warm temps last week just fucked everything.

After a few laps off the peak we met up with some family friends visiting from out of town. The kids are having so much fun learning to ski and that brings me joy.

Last day for my friends visiting from GA. Buddy's son skied his first black today. Kid was stoked.

In the afternoon I broke off, met up with my friend, and found great windbuff. Winds were picking up so tomorrow could be fun.

Last week, pictured below, was good. Today was amazing.

2022 Natural Selection Stop 2 Baldface - no longer live

eta- Now that it is over… brutal conditions dust on what appeared a breakable crust. Riders punching through said crust and tomohawking down the face, or going down suddenly while approaching a take off or natural feature. Probably just the elusive snow snake since the riders were only allowed to comment “tough riding.” Either way, enough carnage to keep the chiros and massage therapists busy all night. Congrats to the Revy boy for knowing how to handle the local conditions and very impressive work by the Aussie slaying the womens field. Most repeated rider comment by the announcers: “The back protector saved me” - Mikkel Bang

Wonderful news in the ski world. Congratulations Ms. Shiffrin!!!

CHEERS

She will be the greatest ski racer of all time and great to see her moving past the Olympics and getting her groove back.
I think next year she will be right back were she was before her father passed.

GO MIKAEELA GO!

cool video skiing/riding the North Summit Snowfield

Snow tonight/tomorrow. Taking the day off today, de-winterizing the camper along with some other chores, then getting after it again tomorrow.
