So many factors in the mix. Overall needs, you got a decent backup in case your gamble doesn’t play out. Pay demands. Seems like crapshoot anyway you go. Deshaun W, Russ W look to be questionable expensive used vehicles at this point.
 
The NFL needed another Worse Asshole Owner now that Snyder bailed, obviously Tepper has filled the opening.

As to QB's, the Purdy vs Zach Wilson comparison defines what can't be measured in the draft...how they will react against the fastest, strongest and best schemed defensive players they have ever faced.
 
It only takes one team to like a guy. Heath Shuler, Jamarcus Russell, Tim Couch, Johnny Manziel, Ryan Leaf, Christian Ponder, Mark Sanchez, Matt Lienhart, Sam Darnold, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, EJ Manuel, and many more. The draft is so full of uncertainties. Your projecting an outcome with so many variables, it’s not science but mostly personal experiences, meaning based on past experiences you want these specific physical and intellectual measurables at minimum, the internal motor, the desire, the intestinal fortitude are all the things that can’t be truly measured but more based on a belief from trusted others in the profession and gut. One of the hardest question to answer is how will the player react to having money, how will he change on a big pay day contract or maybe he won’t.

There are also those players deemed average or good but not great who blossom in the nfl…Why? Maybe they were playing out of position to help the team out? They switched positions last year or two of playing (a Richard Sherman) …. They were asked to do a lot of things in college that hid their talents. Such as a tight end or receiver assigned blocking in an option ground attack team but in the nfl he is not only a good blocker but a great receiver and catches more passes in 3 NFL games than he did his whole senior year in college. 😉 They played hurt in college. And so on
