he's nearing retirement age. he's going to get paid either way. he probably goes off and tries to get a celebrity job somewhere.

Why not take your 250 million+ and retire.
Go play, relax and enjoy the riches of the world with your family.

His new huuuge contract (at the time, now #5) doesn't start till 2024. Nobody is going to pay Wilson that kind of money (just like the Seahawks weren't going to pay him 50 million a year a couple of years ago.)
So he gets cut, outright released unless he renegotiates the contract so he can be traded to the Raiders.
So two years after the trade, Seahawks have come out pretty well all in all.
Payton didn't turn Wilson into the be all/end all of QB's, and we still got 6 of our 8 guys
Lock, Fant, Mafe, Cross, Smith, Witherspoon.

😄😁😄

Well...
You just never know.
But yeah, a 35 year old QB on the backside of his career is not a good move for many teams at this point.
But he will wind up somewhere.

With Wilson benched and likely to be cut, will Denver’s GM survive?
Whoever ends up GM they are going to need to work some serious magic with the cap having all that dead money over the next two years. They are going to need to find some low budget gems. Maybe Jerry Dipoto can help.
This situation as well as Jones in NY are going to be example for teams what not to do in the QB market moving forward.

Copycat league...
Used to be everyone paid the RB a big number
Then that went away.
Now everyone overpays for QB's, and seeing how some of the big numbers don't pan out, expect resistance if the trend of huge contracts and moderate performance continues.
Out of the top contracts, only a few are really worth the coin it seems, and some of them are down compared to past years.
Throw in an injury/ off year or two, and it doesn't look like a winning formula for a lot of teams right now in an overheated QB market.

There's a very specific time period that he needs to be cut. He also needs to be healthy. They'll still eat some 25 mil, but that's far better than the alternative.

I like Paton, but he's not a Payton guy. Wouldn't surprise me either way if they move on or don't.

When you have competing divergent egos change will occur. At times for the better and at times for the worse. Appears the larger ego will prevail.

It's way way more then 25 million.
That's just the dead cap hit. What he actually will get is way more. No idea how they figure that shit out.

Sounds like 85 million in dead cap over 2 years, with a post June 1 release.
