NFR NFL 2023 Season

Is it though? The NBA has had multiple issues with this over the years. It was well known that Jordan would get a free pass on fouls that would get called on other people. Star treatment is a real thing. The Chiefs and Mahomes being the new "chosen ones" is good for business. Taylor Swift is VERY good for business, so milk that while you can!

The lineman holding in that video was the most penalized lineman in the league until he went to the chefs, and his game hasn't changed at all.

I go back and forth on this a lot, but with all the money at stake and the NFL being VERY in bed with sports betting now, there's just a lot of smoke. Sports betting aside, star treatment is real and I think there was a bit of both last night.

Now who was your team again " The Jets " :p

Is it though?
I'm going to stand on human mistakes as the reason until given legit proof otherwise. People always see this through the lens of how they want to see it. The team they want to win gets screwed, the other team is blessed by the NFL. Present company aside, look at the people who historically have screamed about this. They aren't even keeled analytics experts or ex players/refs/coaches, they are crackpot fans angry that their team didn't win. This kind of a thing doesn't stay a secret for decades in an organization as large as the NFL. Especially one that rotates staff as quickly as it does.

The NBA has had multiple issues with this over the years.
There are only 10 people, one ref, and a much smaller "field". While I still don't buy it, if there WERE going to be an "evil league mandate" it would be much easier to control in the NBA than the NFL. It's part of the reason that point shaving scandals are mostly always in basketball. Football is too chaotic with too many different people on the field over the course of a game and too many refs making the calls.

It was well known that Jordan would get a free pass on fouls that would get called on other people. Star treatment is a real thing.
I won't argue that "star treatment" isn't a thing. But again, this is much more easily chalked up to individual human mistakes/bias than some impossible to mandate "make this happen" from the league. At least in the NFL.
The lineman holding in that video
There is holding on every single play in the NFL. That one was particularly obvious just because of how long Mahomes stood back there. But the NFL somehow knowing, in advance, to eat the flag on the holding so that they could just happen to take advantage of a weak D flag on the other end? And then getting the refs to all buy in and do it right? That's asking a lot. You're getting into "fake moon landing" level of number of people who would have to know and execute.

EDIT: Also worth noting that the Chiefs are tied for first this year in holding penalties and were solidly middle of the pack in 2022. They aren't getting special treatment, at least for holding flags.

EDIT2: KC's OT Jawaan Taylor is the most penalized player in the league so far in 2023.

... They also had several key holding calls negating very large gains. There was the fantom horse collar call that favored the Jets. There was clearly hiding and an attempt to impede the route on the call in question - the Jets beating the Chiefs would have been a much bigger story line in the biggest media market in the country by far - this is all just nonsense.

From and admitted Chiefs fan

IMO if it wasn't for the uncharacteristic sloppy play from Mahomes ,I don't think we would be having this discussion , the game wouldn't have been as close as it was .

Now, if you want a conspiracy that is at least a little more in the real of possibility, consider Mahomes's slide at the end. That one decision on his part saved sportsbooks (and cost fans) tens of millions of dollars because the Chiefs won, but didn't cover the 8 pt spread.

Someone could pitch the theory that some big betting company went to Mahomes (or Reid) at some point in the past and said "Look, we're not asking you to lose, but if you have the chance to not cover at the end of a game, we'll give you a percentage of the money it saves us." That at least has the required "only a few people know and have to execute" that could at least make it feasible. I still wouldn't believe it, but it's a lot more likely than a league wide mandate that involves multiple league staff, referees, and replay officials.

He slid so the Jets would not get the ball back with just under 2 minutes left!! Everyone knew they should not necessarily score, run out the clock!!!

Of course.

The counterpoint is that very reason makes the move perfect for a "betting conspiracy" because it's so easy to defend as a "smart football play" and hard to prove he did anything "wrong".

Again, I don't believe conspiracies work in the NFL. Mahomes is a smart player and he made the smart play. But at least "Mahomes got paid to not cover the spread" is more likely than the "all you refs don't call holding so we can throw a bad D flag so that KC gets out of jail" one.

Draw your own conclusion I guess. I even like Mahomes as a player, but he seems to have Manning levels of the "Golden Whistle." A lot of theories presented in my posts, not saying I necessarily believe all of them, I do still think something stinks.

(watch the video)

Decided it was a penalty well after the contact happened. Conveniently when it was a pick.

Holding may happen on every play, and does. That also gives the refs an out to call holding at crucial times. Yes, NY had a few calls go their way, but way less critical than something like what happened in this last drive.

Now for something less tinfoil hat-like.. This is impressive. He looked like a completely different player out there. Hope it's a sign he's turned it around.

Wait! Wait! I thought this is fishing site.

There must be a conspiracy being run by the mods to change it to a sports site....

Jamaal Adam’s cleared for play
If he could put together one season where he reached the level of play he is capable of what a great addition to the D

Go Seahawks!!!
