90 for sure. That was brutal and they missed it.

7 I guess. Not really much there.

What's the 3rd?

PS, Rodgers fumbled on that early sack. Ball was loose but landed on top of him then hit the ground.

The second and third either pushed or bumped the trainers tending to the player that was down. The first guy (#7) clearly pushed the trainer with his hands. The second guy walked over and belly-bumped another trainer. Both were intentional and a shitty thing to do when trainers are trying to tend to an injured player.

71 pushed a trainer who was trying to tend to an injured player into that player. And the other player then belly bumps the trainer and gets between the trainer and the injured player.

A week after a player dies on the field. It's just a level of stupidity I wish the league dealt with swiftly and firmly at the time.

I have a hard time believing that NFL players won't give it their all in any game regardless of circumstances. I suppose some of the tanking reports could be exceptions, but considering how many players have stat based incentives in their contracts, as well as how stats play into future contracts, I just dont imagine too many of them are keen on just rolling over just because the game doesn't matter towards their playoff aspirations.

And that's not to mention the natural competitiveness that I believe is pretty strong in most athletes that make it to that level.

Just my opinion of course, but I think for the most part these guys want to play hard at all times for a multitude of reasons.
You do not get to the highest level of any sport without being super, and I mean super competitive. These guys hate to lose more than they love winning. Losing sticks with you in a way winning doesn't, and they hate it. Not surprising they give their all, and then some, especially against a hated rival. Good for the Lions.

Cheers

Football has never been known for it's dignity with over sized goons bashing each others brains out, breaking bones, tearing ligaments and incurring life long ailments that many have to deal with. I first got interested in the game back in the '40's when Johnny Lujack was the most famous player in the land, I have been around since the first games were televised and have seen all of the greats that have played in the modern area, the first Super Bowl, etc, etc. The game I see today lacks any semblance of dignity with all of the celebratory bullshit going on after almost every play and end zone insanity taking place after every score. End zone celebrations are sophomoric at best but are usually more like kindergarten play for pre-schoolers. To me those celebrations are a bad form of unsportsmanlike conduct and rushing an entire defensive or offensive team into the end zone should be flagged as such. The league has apparently given it's blessing to this nonsense and now has to live with the tasteless results.

Baseball has it's bat flip too-another bush league mockery of the other team but at least the perpetrator runs the risk of a 98 mph fastball in the ribs on his next at bat...

While the individual stupidity of a player shoving a trainer is something new and should be dealt with on the same level as shoving a ref, there is some collective stupidity that just drives me nuts. First of all "Illegal Man Downfield"! I have seen some wonderful plays negated by this nebulous penalty of a lineman stepping over an imaginary line. WTF-is a 312# lineman supposed to choreograph his steps while waiting for another 300# opposing player to knock him on his ass? It's a chaotic game and IMD seems like petty nit picking in the big picture.

And the other change that needs to be made is 10 yard penalties for holding. C'mon man! There is holding on every play and the punishment exceeds the crime. Five yards is penalty enough since it will probably happen again on the next play. Finally, the NFL-despite all the camera angles-still can't always determine when a catch is a catch or a touchdown is a touchdown. Some referees are just incompetent despite all the tools at their disposal, some love to throw flags, others ignore obvious calls. In yesterday's Buffalo game there were no flags in the first 3 quarters. Imagine a Shawn Hochuli crew with no penalties in 3 quarters! I know, you can't.....

I’ve, I totally agree with you about today’s game. I wasn’t quite around yet in the 40’s.....but watched football from the early 60’s. Way different game back then, not a giant business like it is today. Me being no tech....I can’t stand all the technology in sports today. Refereeing was done on the field, they need separate record books with all the bs and technical delays in sports today.
But pushing training staff never should be allowed! My .02

Random thoughts....

Count me in the camp of liking the fact that they're trying to "get it right".....with that, things (like replay) fortunately have become far more streamlined than in the past.

The pushing of the trainer was total bush-league stuff....even if it was a knee-jerk reaction to feeling like he was pushed himself.

I absolutely love the fact that these players are allowed to celebrate a good play or touchdown or whatever....they're excited about it, why not? they're not glued to a seat in a board room being bored with some marketing presentation....

If you, as a pitcher, don't want to see a bat flip, try pitching better and not giving up that home run to lose your team the game.

speaking of the good old days....anyone remember the "Funky Chicken" by that Houston Oiler player? that was great!

Some of the players have anger issues and really are probably not the greatest “people” as it relates to relationships. Remember Fontez Burfict?
Dude was a total animal. Kicked a lot of ass - didn’t matter who’s. Got the better of him eventually and his career ended. High management. I’ve always thought that most of the really good players are pretty smart. I said most not all. Some quality players never get interviewed. There’s a reason

The one I remember the most was the Ickey Woods Shuffle

I have zero issue with players celebrating within the rules the NFL provides. I figure these guys are working their asses off, and they are entertainers after all, so I don't see anything wrong with blowing off some steam after a big play. I'm not onboard with stuff intended to taunt other players/teams, but I have no problem with the team celebrations as we see now. What's wrong with them having some fun? It appears from what I see watching crowds react that a large portion of the fans enjoy it anyway.

That's not to say that I am a huge fan of the celebrations myself, I just dont see them harming anything. Personally I always liked when Marshawn would score and just shake everyone's hand, but I can totally understand players having a higher excitement level after a big play.

It is a game after all.

Top draft pick positions locked in:

Picking 5th hurts a little as Jalen Carter and Will Anderson will probably be off the board. I wonder if they may engineer a trade for a later 1st rounder, unless they're in love with someone at 5.

I'm just hoping that Saturday is the day that rookie Purdy decides to actually play like a rookie!

I kinda doubt it, dude has been pretty damned incredible to start his career, but hey a guy can hope can't he?

Of course the bigger problem is that the Niners run game is so friggen good they likely won't have to ask Purdy to do too much.

This next draft will be a fun one. Curious how it will all play out. Pretty big difference between pick number 3 and number 5, but no telling how it will play out. Hard to imagine Carter or Anderson will still be there at 5, but they will have lots of options no matter what. There's always some interesting picks and trades that allow players to fall a bit so who knows. The Texans situation is pretty funny. If they have their heart set on a certain QB then they'd likely have to trade up with the Bears to the number one pick, which they would have had naturally had they not found a way to win yesterday lol. Guess that supports the concept of players playing hard even in games that don't matter.
