Steelhead
Hi folks, my name is Harry, from NYS. A friend suggested that I join this forum so here I am. I've been a fishing most of my adult years which are many. I started to avidly fly fish about 5 years ago, and it's addictive. I mostly fish for trout and then steelhead when they start coming up the creek I fish, which runs south from Lake Ontario, for many miles. A lot of tributaries are close by, including the Salmon River in Pulaski, about 1 1/2 hr from me. I use a centerpin set up for the Steelhead and Salmon.
I also tie my own flies and have hundreds in fly boxes. If I snag and lose it, I make 5 more.
I also have been carving decorative fish for maybe 40 years, and enter competitions such as the Ward World Wildfowl Carving Competition - Fish Division held in Ocean City MA.

Thanks for having me

Welcome Harry, I’m from Honeyoye and Rochester, far from. Can’t say I miss it after living in the PNW since ‘78. But let’s see some of your carving, please.

Welcome! I used to live (briefly) in the Finger Lakes area and have fond memories of fishing the Delaware and chasing the Hendrickson hatch on Oatka Creek near Rochester. Never did fish for steelhead though. Saw some pics of the shoulder to shoulder combat fishing on the Salmon River and decided that was not for me.

I've fished the Delaware once last year. It's a 3 1/2 drive for me , had no luck that day. I plan on going again in a few weeks. I recently checked out some spots on the Oatka, but it was too warm for the fish. I like the Cohocton River and have helped with the DEC stocking many times.

Welcome Harry. Looking forward to seeing your trip reports
