I get better mileage on the highway, but almost all of my driving is stop and go on local roads.
I don’t have rush hour traffic to contend with, do gauge my visits in town consistently getting 30.
On the highway, backroads, around 60 I’ve gotten 36. Quite happy compared to a truck getting max 16 same manner.

I should add that I'm not opposed to bumping up to $25k either. I'm also not opposed to another Prius. A little clearance is nice, but I've dealt with low clearance for quite awhile.
$29,999. Used 2025 outback, lease return, 11,000 miles, remaining warranty and extended power train.
$29,999, used 2026 forester, 3,600 miles, remaining warranty and extended powertrain.

Both have gotten up to 37 mpg interstate, even with passes involved

I got a 2022 Prius XLE AWD-e that I like. I fish around the Sound a lot, so I don't need a lot of clearance. It would be nice though.

However, from talking with another Prius owner, there's a pretty simple lift kit that can be installed. It allows for larger tires as well. So it ends up lifting the car about four inches. That would be helpful.

Mazda CX3? They have some manuals. I have the mazda 3 manual and love it, but if you want clearance, that, It does not have....

Manual would actually be my preference.

Plus, virtually impossible for someone to steal these days. 😆
Yup. We bought a 2012 Jetta Sportwagen with a manual and the 2.5l five cylinder for our 17 year old after he got his license. He basically had to learn to drive again, but he's appreciative of knowing how to row his own gears. And it's nice to hive around if I want to do a bit of spirited driving...

Color me intrigued about a lifted AWD Prius.

I actually saw one recently in a parking lot here in Gresham. It was pretty sweet. Was a little over the top with a snorkel on the air intake and all that, but it was a really cool, kitted out car that you wouldn't expect from a Prius. Definitely thinking outside the box.

As someone who's just not into Subarus (I've tried, and owned a couple), I like seeing other things try to fill their niche.

Following this as we need a newer car with similar specs @clarkman is looking for.

Anyone have input on the Mazda CX models? We love our 2017 Mazda 6 (reliable, handles great, decent mileage) but its got lousy ground clearance and close to 120k miles.

We've had a 2017 CX-5 since new, not long after I left working as a Mazda tech. Around 110k miles on it, only thing we've replaced is the tires beyond other basic maintenance. If I remember correctly we get about 24-25mpg combined. No CVT either which is a nice bonus.

The newer CX-50 comes in a hybrid option which is essentially a Rav4 Hybrid in Mazda clothing, CVT and all. I think Mazda is developing their own hybrid system for the CX-5 next year. Hopefully better than the CX-70 and CX-90 plug in hybrids that apparently are plagued with issues.

120k is nothing on modern cars.
Agreed. No plans to sell or trade it in. It will probably become my daily commuter. The change is my wife was working/car-pooling with me, but is now staying home to care for her Mom who lives with us. So we need a reliable 2nd car, and one with better ground clearance.

I’ve never been into them either, ignored them. Toyota? Yes.
But…

My friend's daughter bought a used Nissan with a CVT transmission. On the way to the coast, it died. I am happy that I have a Ford mechanical transmission.
