Need some help

I was gifted this rod recently, and curious about lines. Ive got a hardy featherweight courtrsy of @skyriver on the way, so feeling dialed on the reel.

Feeling like i should start by lining it straight up with 2wt (gotta be a DT, right?). Something like a 444 DT feel about right for this rod? Hoping for some insight from those with experience with bamboo. This is my first boo. Pretty stoked.

HDH converts to modern 6DT or 5 level line. You’ll want to try some different lines to see what it likes, but a 2 wt line is likely to be way too light.

I believe that’s the size of the ferrule. 2f is the standard trout size for that rod. You can google heddon 125 2f to learn more.

I don’t have any idea about the history of line designations. I just look that stuff up.

Nice rod! The Hardy Featherweight is the second smallest in the lightweight series around 2 7/8” in diameter. It wouldn’t even hold an entire 5-6 weight line w/o backing but wouldn’t balance a 9’ heavy bamboo rod. I use 3 3/8” St. George or Perfects on my long bamboo rods. A 1495 Medalist would work.....
Hmmmmmm.....I just went back to the classifieds and this Hardy is actually the smallest, it’s a Flyweight at around 2 9/16” in diameter. Made for sub 7’ light rods with a 1-3 weight lines. It would be like putting 13” rims on a one ton pick up.....my .02

Looks like I'm getting another smaller bamboo rod (for the flyweight) and another reel (for the rod I have)!
Probably should have asked this question before hand!!

HDH is the silk equivalent line rating for a 6 weight double tapered fly line. I see you rod is a heddon. Don't think Heddon made any 2 weight bamboo rods, certainly not 9' bamboo rods like yours.

406 makes the best fly lines for my bamboo rods.
