Nautilus Reel Repair (positive experience)

I have owned several Nautilus NV-G, CCFX2, and Monster reels over the past 8 years, and I really enjoy fishing them in all sorts of environments. They have never failed, no matter how extreme the saltwater environment or big the fish species. However, on my 2022 trip to west Africa one of my Siver King reels was damaged during ferocious beach fights with a huge tarpon and Cubera snapper. The anodized coating on the reel hub had grooves worn into it. The cause was a out of place rubber O-ring inside the spool tightening knob, which allowed grit into the spool Teflon hub cylinder. The sealed drag was fine and never failed, but I needed to get this repaired to protect the outer hub from more exterior damage.

I called Nautilus and explained the issue, and they agreed to repair it. $45 was the cost, and I filled out their repair form. The reel was returned to me 29 days after I dropped it off at the post office. The reel and spool look new again! Great service and much faster than I expected. +1 for Nautilus reels.

I will have to do the same. FWX 5/6, drag adjustment results in the same ingoing and outgoing resistance. Not a big deal on a trout reel, but disappointing for a “quality”reel.

I've never owned one, but remember reading that the FWX reels had issues. They are now a discontinued model. You may want to consider upgrading to the newer "X" series reel.

That’s good to hear I’ve been thinking hard about collecting some more saltwater gear for future trips and have looked hard at nautilus for sure. They seem to be very high quality.
