N. Idaho

At some point these epic days will come to an end, but for now I’m just going enjoy them as long as they last. Yesterday’s hatches seemed to never end and the variety was remarkable. This time of year can be like that with a number of different bugs hatching all at once but yesterday was different in that each individual hatch was really strong and the fish were keyed on that particular hatch. It made for a REALLY good time.

The numbers were ridiculous, the size was very solid in that 15-17” range with the occasional 18-19”. There weren’t any jumbo’s caught yesterday. One was hooked but not landed. Some Jackwagon (me😂) forgot the net. I have no idea how many fish we caught but it was a LOT! I got to fish with a couple of newer friends whom I had never fished with and that is always fun when you t-bone an amazing day.

As I have spent more time taking my backcountry hunting approach to fishing, I have started using different gear. One of the big changes has been using my hunting pack with the small 2300” bag attached to the frame. It’s incredibly comfortable to fish with, I never take it off, and it allows me to carry a few more things on these longer ( 10-12 miles) day trips. Yesterday, that pack saved the day as we got lucky and stumbled on to an unexpected treasure. Of course it happened at mile 5.7 of a 6 mile out and back. IMG_0780.jpegIMG_7298.jpegIMG_0798.jpeg

Nice find. Coach and you beat the Porkies to it!

For some reason, I particularly like the second photo. The light on the water, the out-of-focus backdrop, and the sort of ‘action’ shot that defines success and isn’t just a grip and grin. Love your photo essays. The fact they are of one of my favorite parts of the world doesn’t hurt either.

Thank you! I like that one too! I need to take more of those pics because you’re right, it’s a better representation of a moment we’ve all been in and all love the feeling of.

Beautiful scenery and beautiful fish! Thanks for sharing another one of your wonderful adventures. So inspiring!
I’m glad you feel that way. It was a friend who inspired me to do what I’m doing now. For whatever reason, I hadn’t thought of it myself despite it seeming so obvious now that I’m in the middle of it.

It’s the depth of field that blurs the background and emphasizing the foreground.
