Mukilteo Fishing Pier

I have never paid much attention to the fishing pier at the Mukilteo ferry until yesterday. There were several people at the pier. About half had what looked to be around 10 foot fishing rods and the rest had ropes tied off in front of where they were standing. What are they after? I was already on the ferry ready to leave so I couldn't wander over and ask.

Likely crabbing. The long rods I'm not sure, but the ropes sound like crab lines.

Thanks all. I had some limited success in the past with crab snares. I guess I wasn't aware that crab season was open.
 
I’m not saying what they were doing is what I have seen. But I have seen when they have a fish on they guide it into the crab pot and then use it to lift their catch to the pier top. Many rods would snap trying to lift a large fish up onto the pier.

Yeah, pier and jetty fishing in the southeast, we'd use an open top ring on a rope to haul up our catch... lots easier than trying to find a very very long handled net...

That crabbing theory works too
 
There's always guys yelling at each other to Move on the MUKILTEO PEIR!!!!! Last time guy was getting BERATED for the brand of bread was on the sandwich
