Much needed canyon therapy...

I found myself out near Maupin for a good canyon walk...

given the warm, muggy, mostly overcast in the morning, it should have been the perfect herping weather....I even packed my snake hook with me but sadly, it wasn't needed. But I did manage to find a few critters.

I also managed to get a trifecta of native Deschutes fish...a pikeminnow, a few whitefish and a bunch of redsides...

@SilverFly, it's a young of the year Southern Alligator Lizard. I've seen a few adults out there over the years that were quite large.

also, coulda told ya it was an alligator lizard instead of a skink cause it kept trying to bite me....

Color is a bit different than the ones alligator lizards at our place, otherwise pretty similar. Cool critters!

Yeah, you've also got Northern Alligator Lizards there. They like it a little more humid. As adults, they are a bit slimmer and smaller than Southern ALs

I did the canyon section and was happy not to see any danger noodles. Sucked not bringing the dawgs though. There was some sort of moth that was fluttering on the surface I've never seen before and some viscous trout rises. Entertaining!
