NFR motorcycles

Before flyfishing became my passion, I was part owner in a motorcycle shop in La Grande so motorcycles was my world. We sold just about everything accept Honda so it is ironic that after the motorcycle shop adventure stopped 50 or so years ago I ended up owning a 2005 Honda Shadow. (and yes, I have customized the bike)

2010 HD Superglide, wife's 2000 650 Yamaha VStar (which she rode from Spokane to Sturgis & back) and 1999 Honda Valkerie Interstate for superslab.

These three motorbikes all fit in that garage, along with my deathtrap 2007 Tacoma, wife's 2013 Avalon, 4 SOT kayaks, tool cabinets/workbench, and 11 bicycles...like a big Jenga game. Canoe had to go under deck in back of house.

It's great to see other fly anglers ride bikes. Motorcycles was my life during my 20s. Our shop had motorcycle teams for just about every event. Motocross, flat track, cross country, trials. During the winter we switched to snowmobiles and of course, had teams for snowmobile racing.

We personally owned off road and street bikes. Most of my beginning motorcycling was off road -- which figures considering we lived in La Grande. I always tended more toward street bikes but would ride off road as well. We had a hell of a time selling street bikes because most of our customers wanted off road bikes. The motorcycle companies made us buy street bikes and we'd usually end up trading them to shops in the valley for off road bikes.

Motorcycling was such a part of my life, I wrote articles for motorcycle magazines.

It was only natural when my life went the way of a fly angler that I started writing articles for fly fishing magazines. But I really started my freelance writing career in the motorcycle world.

So viewing the bike photos is a bit of a time trip for me. Thanks!
 
I have a 790 and last year we got my wife a 390. She still has her TW too.

Edit: I completely forgot about the Di Blasi

SE corner of the state. I head there every fall for a week or 2 and a few years ago I got into hunting. So I mix in turkey, and now my attempt at upland birds, with swinging flies. I hope to progress to deer one day. You may be able to tell I'm in my waders.
 
Long ago I had dirt bikes. But now I think about something in the 650 to 900 range, call it an urban cruiser. Something comfortable to ride around town, but plenty capable of a day trip to Winthrop or the Coast. Not sure what that is but I’m drawn so far to a Triumph like Ropers, but maybe not “full deck”. Nimble but with enough power to excite, I guess. Not sure I’ll ever go there though.

I'm currently lusting after one of these. Almost pulled the trigger on one but it was a bit more abused than I like. Those are fantastic machines. If you ever decide to sell it please pm me. They really hit a sweet spot for off-road capability and adventure worthy comfort.

The 07 isn’t the smoothest on the road for long distance rides but it’s incredibly capable on the trails and an awesome bike. I don’t ride it as much as I should so if I’m looking to sell in the future I’ll hit you up.

The 640 for me is a curiosity itch I host haven't scratched. I have a 950 adventure S as my must capable long distance dual sport/adventure machine. My 525exc takes care of trail stuff and heavy off-road/dual sport stuff. The 640 seems a great bike to fit between. I've ridden the Husky 701 and it's a very nice machine but it just doesn't have the soul that those older KTM's have. Yes the old ones are more wrench intense but the ugly/beautiful looks and styling just speak to me. I swear I'll ride a newer bike at some point but I really like this l those older adventure Dakar style machines.
