Most robust tippet holder

Wanting to attach a tippet holder to the outside of my sling pack, every cubic inch of space is at a premium. I bush-whack and rock-climb quite a bit while fishing so I need something that's pretty solid and able to take some abuse. Looking at the Fishpond and the Scientific Anglers switch. I don't need more than 4 sizes of leader/tippet so size isn't a big deal

The main reason I don't use one is I've always assumed it would be terrible when bush-whacking. Does it hang up or tangle when buck-whacking?

I like them in a pocket, even if that means my pants, shorts or waders.

I bushwhack a lot. I occasionally bring a Pack Golok when I know I will need to hack my way through Devil's Club but can usually find faint game trails through thick brush.

For a tippet holder a simple DIY short piece of braided cord with a whip finished loop and a small 'biner on one end, and a toggle lock on the other end with a stopper knot works great and is all I need.

More important to me are good, tight fitting elastic tippet spool tenders.

I've been using variations of DIY tippet spool tender for my sling packs and chest packs. The cord lock is low profile and lets you snug the tippet spools right up to the pack for bushwhacking.

I'm using the same technique for tippet inside my old William Joseph Current chest pack. I put two holes in the middle of a patch of Velcro (hook) and threaded small shock cord through the holes. The tippet spools are held onto the shock cord by a spring cord lock and the Velcro sticks to the surface that previously had a Velcro fly patch.

Good info. I bush-whack and rock crawl quite a bit fishing. I lost my tippet holder and three spools of tippet the other day cuz it was hanging off my sling pack. The holder was plastic and not designed for the kind of abuse I subjected it to, so that one's on me. I fish a river with razor sharp basalt and I change tippet sections frequently. It's super nice to have a pair of nippers and tippet spools available w/o having to unzip my pack; and as mentioned space is at a premium (gotta have room for the beer). I bought the SA all metal unit and will try hanging it from a different location on the pack. If that goes badly I'll take a look at one of the above suggestions, or just tuck them in a shirt pocket... no waders in summer!

I think we need to start a William Joseph club. It sucks they went out of business. While some of their products were dumb, their chest and waist packs were awesome. Mine is at least 20 years old and still going. Tough stuff for sure.

For those of us with 3 Benjamins burning a hole ... er ... somewhere (does anyone carry money in their pockets anymore?) I like the recessed tippet holder in this pack https://www.ginkandgasoline.com/uncategorized/the-new-orvis-waterproof-sling-review/ But I don't think I have that strong a burning sensation right now, or at least not one that can't be cleared up with Desinex

I do the same as Brian and in the DIY link: paracord through the spools, toggle on one end, loop with mini-biner on the other end.

Yeah, I'm definitely a fan-boy of the William Joseph packs as well - the magnetic closures on my Current chest pack are almost addictive! Their sister company, Badlands Gear, is still in business selling backpacks and bino harnesses and they still provide limited support for the William Joseph packs. When I converted this pack from a neck harness to the shoulder harness arrangement shown below, I needed additional buckles. I emailed Badlands about buying matching buckles and they just Fedex'd a handful of the matching buckles to me in Calgary at no cost. 1st class support!
