My granger victory 8642 got a varnish chip on thread wraps on an outing Friday...

Took the rod to bamboo rod magician Mike Monsos. He heated up some spar varnish...

Applied varnish to the wraps...

Cleaned up the edges with doubled dental floss...

I saw his floss technique a while back and poached it. It’s made all the difference in cleaning up my wraps.

Glad you are finding it useful. For those who want to try this, be sure to use unwaxed dental floss to wick up the excess spar varnish beyond the wrap.
 
The Six Amigos on the fly boxes Bob had created for the five remaining Amigos from left to right are Kent Lufkin, Bob Burnell, me, Don Wicklund, Richard Olmstead and our good friend Tim Cottage (also in the framed picture). This picture was taken about two weeks prior to his passing at one of our fly-tying nights. It is still hard to accept the fact even two months later, RIP my friend.

Magic Mike….can you please stretch the tip section of my HRQ 6? I broke it on my buddies pontoon boat docking for the second shot of Crown…..another alcohol related accident.
