I'm thinking in depth rod reviews. Quite frankly other rod reviews I have read from reputable shops and on line retailers are trash by people who though have been in the industry for decades do not understand fly rods, why they work when they are good and don't understand why they don't when they are bad .

I want to take a one rod at a time approach give technical information , what the rod will and won't do and my honest assessment of the rod.

Toss in fly line reviews and proper casting technique and you might make it work.

Sounds like it would make a great podcast Rob.

I am way too opinionated about proper fly lines to give reviews on most of them without
Calling them trash.:) that said fly lines are an integral part of any fly rod review

You will know you are successful when one or the other happens:

Rod manufacturers give you rods to review them

or

Rod manufacturers pay you not to review their rods.

Actually I'd love being a consultant. Telling manufacturers what's wrong with their stuff :)

Actually this was on my mind and my way of thinking of what you would be great at. Maybe part of the design/test/evaluation so that only good rods would be released.

You know what your calling is. Now go make it happen...

Keep in mind that display ads, aside from being full of creepy terrible tracking cookies etc, don't really pay very much. And unless you are a big name site, you don't really get to choose what kind of ads show up (hence all the weird ads we all saw on the old site).

The only problem with this statement is you saying the majority of reviewers are trash. While I have no opinion on that, I’d say the vast majority of fly fishers really do rely on this reviews (and like them!) and in fact think they’re good. Your fist step would technically be convincing the other reviewers are trash and I’d say that’s a tall order

I wish Rob the best. He seems to be a good dude and does provide the forum with a lot of good information. Maybe he can figure this out.

I run into folks all of the time on the streets who ask why I don't monetize my content. It's simple really.

You can't put a price on the feeling I get when I bring joy to my fans.

Plus you have a good job.. :)

Niche blogs ( what you are talking about) are pretty popular.
Find a blogger who can give you pointers on things, but start writing now. Get a stash of 10-15 pre written reviews in your quiver while ypu formulate a plan, and devise an income strategy.
Then you will have some quality content ready to go. My friend who writes, and is successful doing so says 'always be writing...save everything, and keep writing'.
