NFR Mexican Riviera Cruise Advice

Non-fishing related
My in-laws are in the their mid-70s and love MazatlΓ‘n, though they visit through their timeshare rather than a cruise. Sometimes they let me and my wife tag along if we bring their grandkids. :). Agree with the comments about the historic old town area. A very pleasant place to visit. Here's a some pictures of the old town at night after a great dinner at El Presidio and one of the cathedral.

Probably back at their homes or hotels, or the Golden Zone. It quiets down quite a bit in the evening as some of the shops close and the only things open are a few of the nicer restaurants. We were there this time of year. It's definitely busier in the day time.

The cruises are filled with old farts, who'll be fast asleep shortly after scarfing down their 4 PM early bird specials. πŸ˜ƒ

Drug boss El Mencho was killed today. Cartel thugs are retaliating now. Fires burning in Puerto Vallarta.

Check the US State Department. They should tell you if it is safe in specific areas. I have no desire to go to Mexico. A retired Clackamas County Sheriff sent me this video:

We've done several Alaska cruises with Norwegian Cruise lines and they just gave us a super offer for a Mexico cruise so we booked for 2/22-3/1.
We are very familiar with the ship and what it has to offer but know little about the current safety for daytime unguided sightseeing at the ports of Mazatlan, Cabo, and Puerto Vallarta. I've checked out the list of paid excursions and most of them don't really appeal to us and at our age we aren't beach people...that said, if I'm missing something I'm certainly open to any and all suggestions.
As of today you might want to hold off a little bit!

What BS! Of course one needs to be careful but the country is not in a state of collapse. I just spoke with my brother who in Queretaro, 230 miles east of Guadalajara. There will be a power struggle and I’d be careful of where I went but this guy is full of it, trolling for clicks….
If there’s a bigger Dick than an influencer I can’t imagine what that would be.

If you go out and do things, you are always taking a risk that injury or harm will happen. But perception of risk can be a bit skewed. You are likely more statistically at risk of harm or injury riding in a car in the US than you are walking around a tourist town in Mexico right now. But its up to each person to decide what risks they are comfortable taking.

Jealous! Hope you get some fishing in.
will see. i am trying to set up a couple night stay out on the island in magdalena - just for the heck of it. not targeting fishing, but may take rods. a month out door to door, and this year magdalena is as far as we go south. started looking at temps yesterday, and its looking good.

Did your trip get canceled with all the upheaval? If not, stay safe out there.
