Non-Fly Merwin Kokanee

I fished Merwin this morning. If you’re looking for some good fishing, for some tasty fish, now’s the time.

You don’t need any type of fancy boat. I caught my limit 2 minutes from the boat ramp.


You don’t need any fancy electronics, you don’t even need any electronics. You don’t need down riggers. The fish are near the surface this time of year.
You don’t need fancy gear. I caught my fish on a $40 Eagle Claw rod and reel combo.
A small dodger, Spin-N-Glo, and small hootchie tipped with shoe peg corn caught most of the fish.

Love it! Very tasty fish. Fishing for kokes on Merwyn is one of the things I miss most about leaving the PNW.

Damn, were only a half hour-ish from Merwin at the new place, but no boat (yet) and I'll be buried in projects for the foreseeable future.

Good motivation though to bump a full-size smoker up a notch or two on the project priority list.
