Merino wool is expensive....But dang it sure is nice. I shelled out for a set of medium weight "minus33" long johns last year . This year I just got my heavy weight "expedition" Minuss33 long johns. I'm, talking Mt Everest kinda underwear. Super soft. Super warm. Why the hell not? And ..I got the the "expedition" weight merino wool "gator" that keeps my ears and neck warm ( huge warming factor). I had a girlfriend from Maine, long ago. She taught me that I could be warm if I dressed correctly. She used the LLBean catalog to convince me.....you can stay warm if you dress correctly.

... do love me some Marino wool though, it is comfy and very warm and wool will stay warm when wet.

I'd be surprised if any less than half of my wardrobe is Merino wool. Once you get a shirt or two, it's hard to not want to replace all your shirts with it. Then the socks... then the underwear.

Wool. It's what we used before fleece.

Personally, I find no use for Merino anywhere except my socks for skiing and winter steelhead fishing. Merino socks are my one mission critical must have.

Costco has a good deal if anyone needs merino socks. I’ve been using them for years.

Socks are definitely a must have, but long sleeve merino wool shirts - both base layer and every day shirts, are by far my favorite.
