Well said. I hope this post isn't too political for the mods.

I'm not going to continue the political issue for the board, but go back and watch All in the Family. It was a massive shift in TV culture. To disregard that part of his career would be horrible.

Sometimes culture is political. You can ignore it but that doesn't make it less significant.

It is part of Reiner's legacy.

I used to watch All in the Family with my folks every week. I think many others did as well. He starred in and directed some classics.

I'm not going to play clean up here if we can get back to the original post. It doesn't behoove us to delete every time someone toes the line or crosses it, but setting a precedent doesn't either. I don't want to close this thread, and the "elephant in the room" surrounding this news will come back up again if all evidence that it's been brought up already is erased.

So keep it on the topic of what was lost and not about other prominent figures' comments on the matter.

Good luck controlling The Usual Suspects (that was a very weird movie).

I missed The Princess Bride, or more to the point, ignored it when it was released thinking the subject and trailers were stupid. Oh man, was I right - one of the funniest and stupid movies ever. Now it's a once a year viewing - so damn stupid funny. My other favorite Rob Reiner film: Stand By Me

What a run as a director through the mid 90’s in particular. Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, Stand By Me, Misery, A Few Good Men, Ghosts of Mississippi. He directed a lot of stuff after that I did not see or did not love but still did some great work. Just rewatched Wolf of Wall Street last week where he played DiCaprio’s father in a very funny role. Really horrific how it ended for them.

My kids memorized the entire dialogue of The Princess Bride. It was a cult classic among their group of friends, just like All In The Family was a cult classic among many boomers.

RIP Rob & Michelle. Such a very sad loss.

Steven King has a nice eulogy in today's New York Times, it's behind a paywall but basically led me to this...

Reiner directed Misery.... for a while "Mister Man!" was thrown around in our house as a dumb joke between me and my wife...

Kathy Bates just plain owns this....

Rob was an intelligent, socially moral man who put his energy and money into fighting for democracy and individual rights for everyone, not just the select few.
No one's murder should ever be celebrated for their political views, which every US citizen is entitled to under a functioning democracy.
