Life of the Party
On March 10 1967

Two f-4 phantoms were flying a mission over North Vietnam. One of the F-4s was hit by anti aircraft fire and began leaking fuel. Losing fuel fast the pilot determined he would not make it to Kc-135 tanker waiting for them in Thailand.
The pilot of the 2nd F-4 was Bob Pardo. He moved his plane behind the stricken Phantom and attempted to push the other plane after several failed attempts the damaged F-4 lowered his tail hook then Pardo maneuvered his plane so that the hook was on his windshield and proceeded to push the other f-4 now running on one engine to safety in Laos where all 4 men ejected and were later picked up by search and rescue crews. Bob Pardo was in the process of being court married for breaking USAF regulations and losing his plane. In response to the court martial Pardo's commanding officer Col. Robin Olds simply put him in for a commendation and the court martial went away.

thanks Rob. my dad had some interesting stories he shared from his time in the USAF. during the cold war as well as WWII pilots did many crazy things and got away with them. he was 'too old' for combat flying by the time Vietnam came on the scene but my all time favorite cousin Capt. Peter, flew 3 tours over there.
