We just completed Mancation XVII last Saturday after 8 great days of eating, drinking, and some fishing. We started in Southeast BC fishing Sand Creek, The Elk River, and the Fording River. Unfortunately, we hit it just when a couple of days we received heavy thunderstorms and rain. The Elk and its tributaries were running high, fast, and dirty during our time there and the fishing was poor but the scenery was great.

We left Fernie and headed to Wallace ID. On our way we stopped and fished the Clark Fork northeast of Regis about 40 miles. The water temps were very warm but did catch several larger fish on streamers. We quickly left the Clark Fork and continued to Wallace. The first night we went up the North Fork of the CDL river and caught several small fish on top, but it too, was very warm water. So, we began throwing streamers again and had some luck finding some larger fish.
The next stop was to travel over Moon Pass and fish the St Joe. Here again top water was slow action but caught a few and also found some with streamers. The St. Joe is so pretty and the trip over the mountain from Wallace is fun and beautiful. One more day on the NF CDL after this day and then I needed to head home.
