My daughter just moved there. Gonna visit for a long Thanksgiving weekend. Will also be visiting there off and on for as long as she stays there. I've been doing some research on the 'net. Looks like Billy Chinook, the Des., Crooked, and Metol. are all within striking distance. Any Intel about the area appreciated, not looking for hotspots or honey holes and PM's are welcome. I live in the Roseburg area, maybe someone up there wants to swap 'guided' trips or something. Cheers.

keep an eye on Jeff Perrin weekly reporting from Sisters, and you'll know what fishing is doing at the time of your visit.

That time of year I would be making the drive to Fall River or the Met. Whatever you’re fishing make it heavy and try to get under the logs/snags or drift a small streamer under and strip it back out.

It's been a while, but I used to fish lake Simtustus a lot. Both trout and smallmouth are available, but it really helps to have a boat. It can be fun to cruise the bank and chuck wooly buggers and stip.

Could always throw BIG streamers at the Met for bullies

Would not waste the drive time from Madras to go the Fall, too far (compared with better, closer streams) and too crowded, would concentrate to the Lady M, the Deschutes and the Crooked, all have easy access and outstanding opportunities for some great fishing; LBC you need a boat (don't think I would venture in a float tube).

Depending on your route over the hill, you could also have a quickie on the upper MacKenzie.

Cheers

x2...living 20 mins from Fall River I only fish it in late afternoons, as it is a highly popular fishery. It pales to the grandeur of the Metolius, and Crooked River is usually far less crowded with plenty of fish on tap

Most definitely. If you do happen to get access to a boat, I've had some good days casting to the north bank of the Met Arm of the reservoir. Caught my first bully there.
got a 16'9 aluminum with a 60hp and a garmin trolling motor... sounds like I'll need to drag it up there sometime, or is that too much boat?

Madras........ah yes.........All my D river float trips started at Abby's Pizza. All suggestions so far are good ones.

Lake Billy Chinook is big and can get windy. That sounds like a good boat for it. Same for Simtustus. Heck, all the Cascade Lakes can get windy in a hurry.

Thanks all for the great suggestions. I have to be careful now to make trips to Madras about visiting my daughter with opportunities for occasional fishing trips instead of the other way around.. It's not that I don't love family and put them first, just this fly-fishing thing that gets me all wound up sometimes man. None of you suffer from that do you?
