Lower Deschutes Mayhem

Well got out last Wednesday at 4 am to fish the lower d. Fishing was decent for the first 2 hours before sun got on the water. Landed this toad first 30 mins of being on the water.20220601_072744-01.jpeg
My setup a chubby with a 3 and a half foot dropper with my dropper being UV tan Duracell. Once the sun hit the water fishing slowed, but was still decent. Decided to practice with my trout spey for a while.20220601_095833 (1).jpg
I hooked up to something big the take was ferocious. The fight was weird some head shakes but lots of mass and just stuck to the bottom. After a while I started to take ground and hauled it in.20220601_100040.jpg
To my surprise a 20 inch hog of a white fish. Not what I was going for but hey still put up an awesome fight. Now most of you are probably wondering what about the Salmon flies and Golden Stones. Well hate to be the bearer of bad news but the fish didn't get keyed in on them this year. With the multiple cold fronts and honestly not that many bugs falling in the water, it turned out to be a lack luster year for big drys. Now the rest of the day still doing chubby dropper was still effective. Then right before dark caddis popped off and they started feeding on the surface. 4am to 10pm. With about 15 fish caught wasn't a bad day at all.
