Lower Deschutes First Trip

So as we all know the lower deschutes has opened up completely now. I didn't go out during the opener but know that it fished super good. That being said it didn't fish well yesterday. Combination of cold front coming in, heavy wind, and no bug activity.20220426_125216-01.jpeg
Even though it wasn't a good fishing day ,it was beautiful and great to be out with family and friends. Dry dropper setup is our preferred method of fishing. Double nymph rigs with stone fly and something a little smaller underneath would be effective.20220426_144133-01.jpeg
One post spawn fish my friend Paul caught. Keep in mind there are reds all over the place, so if you see fish on them please let them be.20220426_152621-01.jpeg
Give it a couple more weeks and the fishing should be picking up. Lots of salmon fly nymphs in the water and with warmer weather coming our favorite time of the year is coming.20220426_173049-01.jpeg
If your into trout spey, swing a size 8 sculpzilla good way to get a tug. Hope to see you on the water!

How's the R8?
Well to be honest this rod with be a great dry fly and small dry dropper rod, but do I think it's worth the money no I would rather own NRX LP Gloomis,. Not only is it cheaper but a better casting rod I think. The R8 would perform best with a Rio Gold, Rio Technical Trout, SA Infinity, or SA Trout. Lines like the SA MPX, Rio Grand are not well suited for this rod. It with do good with those lines but not great.

Thanks for your feedback!

I figured the Mecca area would look like an Easter egg hunt that weekend, so I fished up north.

I'm holding my breath in anticipation of the salmonfly hatch. It's been so cold, both days and nights, that it could easily delay things. You pays your money, you takes your chances!
