So as we all know the lower deschutes has opened up completely now. I didn't go out during the opener but know that it fished super good. That being said it didn't fish well yesterday. Combination of cold front coming in, heavy wind, and no bug activity.
Even though it wasn't a good fishing day ,it was beautiful and great to be out with family and friends. Dry dropper setup is our preferred method of fishing. Double nymph rigs with stone fly and something a little smaller underneath would be effective.
One post spawn fish my friend Paul caught. Keep in mind there are reds all over the place, so if you see fish on them please let them be.
Give it a couple more weeks and the fishing should be picking up. Lots of salmon fly nymphs in the water and with warmer weather coming our favorite time of the year is coming.
If your into trout spey, swing a size 8 sculpzilla good way to get a tug. Hope to see you on the water!
