I'm still smiling about hitting a new to me freestone river in Oregon. I'd heard reports of a river with cutts and rainbows which responded well to dry flies. I headed out for a couple days of fishing. I located a FS campground with 15-20 sites that I felt confident would have some empty space on a Sunday afternoon, assuming that some folks would be heading home. I located it and found no one there. Set up camp and went fishing. I spent 2 days on the river, often battling through downfall and overgrown banks to reach the occasional fishy spot.
The fish, as reported, responded well to dries. The rainbows topped out at 12-13", the cutts at 10". The flies used were predominantly stimulators and royal coachmen. The thing that keeps me smiling is that I saw no one fishing in the two days there, and no one else was at the campground. 70+ year-olds probably shouldn't fish alone in difficult conditions, but I'll be back as soon as possible.
