Any favorite lines for moderate action 4 wts.? I have a Cortland Sylk so that’s what I’m going to be using, but am curious about other options for my new to me 490LL.

I fish a 486LL and I like it with a double taper 4wt line. I've had a few kinds of DT4 lines on it and they all worked well.

You are going to love your new rod, I'm sure!

I fish a 490-3 (graphite 3). For years I used an old Orvis (SA) DT4F for years, standard true-to-weight. Great for most fishing but on longer “long belly” type casts it required a lot of attention to timing, it was lots of grains to carry on a moderate blank. I replaced it with an SA Expert Distance and that helped, similar basic true-to-weight with skinny long rear taper. The LL isn’t made for bombing but it is my main trout rod, and got used swinging soft hackles on big water.

On my 389 LL Graphite III I have only used two lines over 20+ years I have used the Cortland 444 Peach and few years ago I bought a Rio Gold Perception Trout. Both have been good but the Peach is buttery smooth. I’ll go back to the peach when the time comes for a new line. But then again they will have another new dozen lines out by then. ?????
