I found a nice inexpensive baitcasting rod I really like, it's the Shimano Scimitar lightweight Kokanee trolling rod in the 7' size. Has carbon fiber grips and an all black look, and is a very nice rod for casting lightweight plastics or smaller crankbaits, spinnerbaits.

I put my Daiwa Viento on it and it was a good match, reel was loaded with 40 power pro and a 8 lb fluorocarbon topper, the light flexible tip was able to load up & send a 1/4 oz jig head and grub wherever I wanted to drop it.

At a retail price of $50 I'd recommend one, and am planning on picking up a 2nd one, and possibly the 7' 6" version as well.

A couple of years ago a replaced my old Shimano reel with a Shimano computerized reel. It is designed to minimize backlash. It's a game changer. I can make casts such as skipping a Senko under a boat dock ( like skipping a stone) with far fewer backlashes. The computer is powered by a battery that recharges as you reel in. It's a few bucks more but well worth the money.
