License and endorsements

Well, it's time for me to remind everyone to get your 2026 license now, so you can fish New Year's Day. Seems like more and more endorsements are required. Now there is an Oregon ocean endorsement, AND I see a new one for the Columbia?

The CRSSE is required when fishing for salmon and steelhead on more than 50 rivers, lakes, and other waters in the Columbia River and its Washington tributaries.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, Fish and Wildlife Officers may check anglers at these locations to confirm CRSSE compliance. Officers will use discretion when appropriate and educate anglers about the newly implemented endorsement requirement.

The last phrase (emphasis added) sure seems like an incentive to blow this off...

As long as I can remember, Oregon has a yearly approach for the fishing and hunting licenses.

Because I'm old and have lived in Oregon all but three years of my life, I qualify for a Pioneer hunting and fishing combo license. When I first got my license a number of years ago, it was free. Then they upped the price to 6 bucks. For 2026 the license is now 10 bucks !

Of course 10 bucks is much less than what the average price is for a combo license but free was a lot better. 🫤

I was all happy to being an old fart thinking this May I’ll be 70 and finally get the reduced old people combo fishing license….then woke up and realized my current license is up at the end of March. Damn! Can I get a fake fishing license for a couple of months (like the teenage days fake ID to try to buy beer) stay under the radar or not fish until my birthday?? Yeah right…..guess I’ll just have to buck up!

Bummer it's not based on the age you act, Steve. Yours and mine would be free!

Come on Steve, as much as you fish it's still cheap entertainment. Next year though!
Just think, I'm just now down to under $50 an outing on my other pass. Fishing is inexpensive.

Ture Tom….just a rant. But right now I’m spending more on my Hotrod truck than I paid for my house!!? And with a depleted bank account…..
