Leonard's first day at the lake

The wife's procedure went well, so well in fact she went to work today because her teaching partner didn't get a sub yesterday. The next part we just wait, it's out of our control, like so many things in this world. Past experience says everything will be ok but I still worry. Since I was ready to be home, I selfishly took a day to go fishing, hang out in my favorite house of worship, and thank my higher power for what I have and ask for help.
There was more snow up on top on the way in, I hope it keeps coming.

I remember being here years ago getting coordinates for an original GIS project basemap and boundary monumentation project. Any surveyor will tell you, the corners always in the blackberries.

Now the 66H I have by Steve Blake has only been fished on the rivers up until now. Maybe not the most ideal choice in terms fishing tools, but more aesthetically pleasing and fitting of my mood.

I worked around the lake for about 45 minutes with no luck, finally I settled into a spot, rigged up an indicator, and fished the little black leech that has been working. Bingo.

Now that was fine, but I was missing more than I was getting. Following the same logic as the other day I wanted a smaller leech but didn't have one, so I thought color scheme and found the Higas SOS. Much better hook up rate, and I found some of these really fiesty ones that took line and came kicking and screaming all the way to the net.

As I walked out the other way there was some color, out of the desolation of winter comes some brightness.

But I just had to look. This is where my heart is. Summer warmth is still a ways off.

I fished the rod with a wulff bamboo line in a five, like I had been on the river. It felt like there was a dead zone where the rod didn't load correctly, like 20-35' or so. Once I got to about 40' there was enough to really load it well again. I think I'll try my 6wt sylk on it next time, or maybe I'll get to the 5 wt. sink tip next time, it's probably different as well.
