Leech Lake

I went up to Leech Lake on Friday with a buddy. The first thing we noticed was that the water was very murky, and it was not an algae bloom. The visibility was only three feet at best. This of course did not help the damsel fishing nor the fishing in general. After a full day of fishing, I only got three bows and three bookies. The buddy I was fishing with did just slightly better. There were three other fishermen on the lake, and it did not appear they got anything. I am not sure what has caused the murkiness for this time of year.

What were the mosquitoes like up there? I was thinking of doing an overnighter at a alpine lake in the near future.

I overheard two of those mosquitoes talking in one of the campsites the other day. They had some poor guy pinned down in a tent. One said, “Should we eat him here or take him outside?” The second one said, “If we take him outside the big guys will get him “.

By late Aug/Sep it is pretty much OK around the launch. In the woods, however, you will still be a food item.

I’ve heard that if you get bit enough, you become immune. You might look like a prize fighter that lost in the 10th round after every trip for a while but eventually they respect you
