Leech Lake Newb

The problem with the weekends up there is that the parking lot is used by hikers on the PCT as well. If you trailer a boat up there, there is only a few places that will fit your truck and trailer without it blocking traffic anyway.

Right what the hell was he thinking!!
Maybe his tolerance for crowds is higher than ours. Maybe hes 18 and still learning. All any of us can expect is to learn from our mistakes and move on.

If youre expecting solitude at leech, you wont find it. If youre looking for easy fish you wont find that either. Soon they will be refusing natural insects.

I think Amin needs to step in and send a kind ethics rule for our group. NEVER REVEAL NAMES OR EXACT LOCATIONS! If you want to post on FB or Utube, this is not the right group for you. And stockings are online, keep it to yourself. This pic from a buddy depicts what your loose tongues can do to some of our favorite spots. Admin should delete this thread.
When I read your post and saw "Amin" needs to step in I thought to myself, Isn't Idi Amin long since dead? Ah so, Admin. ;-)

Idi Amin would have killed and then eaten the offender...
Probably a bit to strong a punishment for hotspotting though.

When are you setting up camp Shawn?
I think this post should come down as this lake will be overwhelming now and for the coming weeks. Hot-spotting wrecks places.

But I don't think I will be seeing up camp, I am playing nurse and gardener, as my wife is layed up, so most likely just day trips if possible.

It started out as an innocent seeming question, Hey, I’m thinking about Lake X. What do you guys know?
Well, it should have ended right there, or better, never started.
We live in a crowd, on-line it is a big one. We all have a nearly universal desire to share and gossip with people we see as in our group.
On-line use a simple rule: for sensitive stuff, don’t ask, don’t tell.

Man, a lot of people clamoring for silence on #leachlaque i mean #bloodsuckingaquaworm lake. Sure hope nobody hears about the #hawgfarm that is #lagovampireamoebas or #shits about to hit the #fan.

Admins help!!!!

Dave, for your 19th I'll get you some Thin Mints for that place. Ever heard of those?

Same as always on the rest. Put the Toxic Algae signs out and enjoy the solitude. Report or it didn't happen!

(Maybe see you in fall if you're on land - hope you've been well)

For the first time, I’m looking at an opportunity to fish Leech Lake and could use some recent intel. From the WDOT cam, it looks like the pass is clear. Any word on the lake, the parking lot, and camping?
To sum up the original? asked yes it's a lake, there's a small p lot and camp sites.
Oh and could be very crowded and no spots left to p or c. Enjoy🤠

Perhaps I should have requested PM/DM replies to keep others from tossing gas on a dropped match?

But, really. When newbing water that’s more than a 3 hrs drive from where a person lives, the initial question is innocent enough.

As a friend who fished there once told me, and as others have said, it can be a very on/off fishery with definite potential for a skunking. For people to have to drive that far, it’s a bit of a surprise that it’s popular at all.

Freshly stocked fish will hit a birds nest trolled shallow.
When the fish move down and behave like real fish, a hares ear is good and may work throughout the season if you know how to fish it and where. (Don’t ask, lol)
Other flies on the top for lake insects as hatches take off as the summer progresses.

Half of the fisherman get there at day break leave by 1 pm and 70% catch nothing or maybe a few brook trout probably the last time they fishes it. Last year I was up there a couple times with no other person was on the lake

Swimmers itch, those parasites are awful. Okay fun story time:

A few years ago a group of friends and I headed out to the Madison River cliffs to jump. After a few jumps we thought it a good idea to look for a spot on Ennis Lake to chill out and grill. We found this awesome beach on a weekend in 90 degrees with nobody around. What a gem! We swam and floated about for about 30min when all of a sudden my Weimaraner started going ape shit. Running around crazy, jumping in the vehicles and back out, into the sand and all over. None of us understood what was going on. Then soon after one by one we each fell victim. Some of us had the bumps head to toe, in every crevice and others lucky to have just feet/shins. We took off in haste back to Big Sky through the cutoff road and in route stopped at a small convenient store. Under the old clerk’s suggestion we began to shower ourselves in gallons of milk. The drive home was a mix of laughs and hell accompanied by the smell of milk. One friend had permanent scars from it for weeks. The beach looked too good to be true for such a day, oh the good ol adage always rings true.

Look at what I caught at Leech Lake a couple years ago. Do not wade wet.
Dude! That looks horrible!

Were you that guy who posted the wet wading selfie on Google? You sure looked like you were having a good time out there doing the Jesus Christ pose. Little did you realize at the time, it was a self fulfilling prophecy.

Nope, not me. This is the only site I post on. But, yes it was very unpleasant. First ointment the Doc gave me burnt something fierce. Took about a week to recover. Went back up a couple of weeks later and there was a mom with two teenagers swimming in the area in front of the put in. I warned her and she looked at me like I was crazy. Then I saw a couple fish and three spinning rods on the table so I moved on.
