Lake Umatilla ( Columbia River)

Jimbojones

Freshly Spawned
My family and I will be camping at the Plymouth Park campground on the Washington side of Lake Umatilla in a week. I plan on taking my 7wt to target small mouth. Any suggestions on flies to tie before I head down? or any other suggestions for that matter! Thanks!

IMO
I would tie up some mouse patterns, big hoppers, frogs for dry flies/top water.
Emerges, again big.
Nymphs, crawdads.
Streamers, bait fish
Smallies on a fly rock

I’ve seen stringers of walleye come out of the sloughs around the campground when I have been there around Memorial Day. Could be interesting mixed-species fishing.
That would be awesome. Im open to trying for anything. Now i need to figure out what flies to use for walleye! Thanks for the info!

I have an 8wt spey rod i was thinking about taking. Do you think that area is any good for that? mainly just wanted to get some practice in but i dont mind leaving it at home if not.

A Spey setup wouldn’t be my choice… but maybe if you’re anchored in the current? Have you fished that setup out of a boat?
