NFR Jerry Lee Lewis "Great Balls of Fire" dies at 87.

Non-fishing related
I though that this was fake news. I read yesterday that he was still alive. Hell I'm 87, I shouldn't be reading this shit.

At 22 he married his 13yr old niece.

Pedophile!

wait. what? for real? ew.

No, it was actually a cousin, but she was 13 (and he was 22). This is a delightful line from Mr Lewis's Wikipedia page:

Lewis was married seven times, including bigamous marriages and a marriage with his underage cousin.
This from his Rolling Stone obit article:
Lewis’ estranged fourth wife, Jaren Gunn Lewis, was found drowned in a pool just before she and Lewis were divorced. In 1983, his fifth wife, Shawn Michelle Lewis, was found dead in the bedroom of their house in Nesbit, Mississippi, less than three months after their marriage. Although her death was attributed to pulmonary edema, a buildup of fluid in the lungs (implying a drug overdose), the death was mired in controversy. As Rolling Stone later reported, blood was found on Lewis’ robe and slippers, but the blood was never tested and Lewis was never charged. He denied any involvement in her death.

Also drunkenly smashed into the graceland gates at 3AM with a loaded pistol on the dash. Told the police he was going to see his friend Elvis. Elvis, however, was the one who called the cops. He had long addictions to alcohol and pills, once accidentally shot a member of his band, and famously burned a piano onstage when he was told he had to open for Chuck Berry.

Music is awesome, musicians are just humans. Some are very very flawed.

He married his cousin..

'Lewis was near the peak of his popularity in 1958 when the public learned that he had married Myra Gale Brown, his first cousin. She was 13 at the time; Lewis was 22.'

Marrying your cousin isn't all that uncommon in the South, although first cousins can be a bit dicey for the children, and the children's children.
