Jasper National Park Fire

Fished Jasper area many times in the 80's and 90's. Awe-inspiring beauty for sure! Ice-off was early July back then.

Best wishes to all of those affected...

From my understanding JNP hasn’t had a fire like this in sometime. Unfortunate for the short run and all the folks forced to evacuate, it will though better the forest in the long. 🙏 for the safety of those impacted.

Been through Jasper many times, great skiing and hiking; much nicer, in my opinion, than the more famous Banff. The drive from Jasper to Banff is one of the great drives in North America, tough to beat. Hopefully the town will be spared. Pray for cool air and rain.

The Park fire near Chico just blew up overnight, 80K acres and growing.
Near the scar of the Camp fire that burned Paradise, CA and killed 85.

wife just got off the phone with her brother who lives in Chico, who are obviously keeping an eye on the fire.
As for utter conflagrations:

the entire west is on fire...never thought periodic checks of the current local air quality report would become a part of daily life during summer
This is so true. Chelan fire keeps pushing 30,000 acres with folks up at Stehekin evacuated this morning! This fire is still only 14% contained. Local weather forecasts going back up to the 100s next week! Apparently this is nothing compared to the Oregon fires which have reached over 270,000 total acres burning!
