What is the latest thinking on intermediate lines? I have been using Cortland Clear Camo for decades now and am very happy with it and caught a shit load of fish on it yesterday so I'm not changing. But a lady friend that is visiting this week was impressed with my catch rate on the line and ordered a new spool for a reel to hold an intermediate line. Is the Cortland Camo still a top quality line, especially for anyone that never fishes in the cold? Thoughts?
 
I’ve heard some people say it coils a lot. I used a clear Cortland Int. for years and it coiled, but you could easily shake it out as you cast and it laid out nice and straight in the water. I’ve bought two new Cortland lines this year and really like them. Great products..
 
When chasing King's full time, a 9 wt camo got used and abused for over a decade without failure...and a 6 wt camo is always in the boat quiver
 
I have clear or camo intermediate lines from SA, Rio, and Airflo. They are all coily lines that are a pain in the ass to use. I hate all of them. I hear tales of intermediate lines that are a dream to fish with. I am very skeptical of those claims.
 
I wish the memory in my Cortland intermediate line was as bad as mine, but it ain't. At lease if memory servers me right. It helps to stretch them out a bit before going out, especially in cold weather. They still help catch a lot of fish so I put up with the coiling. Years ago I had a girlfriend that nagged a lot in cold weath...........Oh never mind.
 
I used a old Rio intermediate line off and on yesterday that was terribly coiled coming off the reel, but it reacted wonderfully to stretching and never tangled, unlike my Rio type 6 line. When I put back on the reel to move places, I had to stretch it again as I took it off the reel. Was good for several fish.
 
I got a Cortland clear camo 6wt when I bought a battenkill disk from a member last fall. It was on spool, never used. Used 5 outings this sping. Only coils that appeared were right off the bat. About 5 minutes of trolling and they were gone. No problem since. I like this line a lot in less than 8' so far.
One of my buddies at the lake says it's his favorite after a full sink. I like it at lot better than my 5wt Orvis intermediate, which takes some fishing to fully straighten out. Sink rate is more consistent for a casted length also.

Ended up giving it away. The SA Sonar Titan is my favorite once whatever coating they put on it at the factory wears off. It starts sinking a lot better after that. A shop owner told me that SA suggested wiping it down with an alcohol wipe.

Same. Great line, once it actually starts sinking.

Last Cortland clear I bought, probably 5 years ago, didn't seem the same as the older Cortland Clear lines I had.
 
when are you guys getting the coiling? I used to use a stripping basket only on the surf. Then I started using one on a flats boat. The basket is a multiple problem solver. I have 3 different baskets for different kinds of fishing.
 
The ONLY lines that coil on me are my clear intermediates. All other line configurations either come off the reel nicely or can be given a quick stretch and they are good to go. If it is warm enough outside, the clear intermediates are tolerable, but still far worse than all my other lines.

Pretty much the same here , have several sinking lines in different sink rates . The only one that has any issue with line coil is my old Orvis intermediate , but it it never has seemed to be much of an issue straightens up pretty well in the water , and the coiling as most say the early spring or late fall cold weather . Summer time use no issues with coiling , but as said even the coiling is not a problem to me . I strip it back into my apron , with no problem with tangling .
