Infrared Thermometer

I don't know if this is old hat to most here but I love these things. Just point and shoot at the water, read the temp and fish accordingly. I used to have an Orvis one but they went out of production and I lost mine. I Googled Infrared Thermometer Fishing and found a couple of good options.
Harbor Freight has a pocket sized one for electricians and such for $12. A bargain there... I found a sexier one on Amazon for $30 that looks to be durable and handy to stow in a pocket. It's a nice metal tube, just point and click. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08L6RPJZD/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are kind of fun. You can see how hot your dog is, check the hot tub, take your own temp, or not.

IR thermometers will only take a surface temp reading. I wouldn't use one for fishing; air/surface temp can be significantly different from underwater temp.

In a river, at least all of the rivers I’ve fished, the temperature difference between the surface temperature and the subsurface and bottom temperatures is negligible if it exists.

Stillwater, though, is an entirely different story.

@FishyJere , thanks for the link. I’m looking to replace my current IR thermometer.
