Life of the Party
I was given a TFO bug launcher office rod. Rod doesnt have a seat for a reel. Also came with no line. Looks like the line is just yarn. Anyone practiced with these?

Im also interested in trying to fish 1# water with this but have no idea what line i could use (maybe tenkara?). Suggestions welcome!1000007952.jpg1000007953.jpg

Fancy banty. electrical tape reel to grip. any light fly line will work, you just have to adjust amount of line out to load.

they can be kind of fun... ;)

Bought them for our grandkids. The Buglauncher, along with Lefty Kreh's excellent demo youtube about its use, does a good job of helping an aspiring flyfisher truly understand how casting a fly actually works...especially useful for those whose main fishing experience involves a spinning reels and lure casting. Casting lures on spinning rods creates a lot of bad habits and misconceptions about how a flyrod/flyline actually work.

The Buglauncher line is heavy enough that they can distinctly feel it loading the short rod on the backcast.

Dunno about adapting it for fishing....

TFO does sell a version of the Bug Launcher with reel seat. Do your rod have an end cap that can be removed - maybe a generic reel seat could be added?

Ya mine is the ~4' version. The seated versions are 7 & 8'. If I can find a line that works, I think it would be great for the creek in my backyard that has 6" cutties.

You'd get a lot more bang for your buck with a fiberglass Eagle Claw 6.5' 3/4 wt Featherweight (~ $35). Works great for short casts, slingshotting and dapping. They're still widely available.

I've had one for years that I use for fishing skinny blue lines. I put an old Perrine automatic reel and cheap 3wt line on it. You don't need backing in that kind of water. The auto reel makes it very easy to make sure your retrieved line doesn't get swept into the snaggy environment of little trout water.
