Just noticed I have a noticeable fixation with Altra shoes. Anyone else find they end up with a lot more of something than they realized?

I mean, they each have their own unique use... but I think I found "my brand."

I ran a few hundred miles in a pair of Hoka Bondi 6 shoes. Thought I'd go and replace them with some new gen Bondi 7 and hated them. Then tried the Arahi 6 and hated that. Just not close to the same anymore. So I run in the Altra Paradigm 6 and Karhu Ortix, which I think are far superior now. Not sure what happened to Hoka, but they definitely changed their feel. But mine were strictly for running, not everyday shoe.

For me, it's gotta be hats...

What is it about those shoes that you like so much?
I've always found describing how shoes fit to be like describing how fly rods cast. Going to be different for everyone. They're just perfect for my foot shape, very roomy toe box, and very high quality construction. I've spent a lot of time getting fitted and trying on shoes because I'm so picky... always end up with these for some reason. Though I went to the running shoe store last week and got fitted again and ended up with a pair of Karhu brand shoes, which I had never even heard of. So now I have 3.5 dedicated running shoes for my training for the Hood 2 Coast Relay.

I mosty hoard fly fishing stuff so my hoarding doesn't count in this thread. I could be due for a new hat; if only I could find one as cool as this one I bought from David. If only..........

For me it's hiking boots & hiking shoes. For years I had good luck with Merrells, then Keens, both of which developed seam durability problems when they altered their fabrication and construction design. I've now switched to a variety of Oboz which are holding up well (though I'm currently experimenting with a pair of Lowa boots).

I doubt many of you were around in the days of all leather hiking boots like the Vasque Hiker II's....heavy, but lasted many years with a bit of care, and could be repetitively resoled. Thinking of having something similar custom made, instead of purchasing an unending parade of disposable but very expensive hiking footwear.

Vasque is making the Sundowners with the rocker heel again. My favorite footwear ever.

My old man wore Stan Smiths from Adidas. Now my son has a ton of Stan Smiths and I have none, looks like it skipped a generation.

About 15 years ago I somehow ended up on a sneaker magazine mailing list. The sneaker magazine would come and I would read it with the kind of interest you have for looking at say a chicken breeder catalog. Totally random, but fascinating subculture that I could appreciate on one level but was not my game on another.

In the Doctor office waiting room had a similar experience. I came across copies of the "American Organist" which was not about internal medicine, but instead about Americans with organs they play. It had lots of organ porn. Big pipes, church organs, wurlitzers etc. It was fascinating. Taking that a step further I have made it a dumb mission to- if I have one- bring a whacky magazine to a waiting room I may end up in and leave it. Case in point, a friend gave me a copy of a British magazine called "Carp World" about fishing for carp with doughballs and giant rods in sorta murky ponds that looked less fun than I5's Gissberg or I90's Easton Ponds or the rectangular ponds beside the Yakima a little further down. I made sure to leave "Carp World" in the waiting room on the general principle that whacky low circulation mags need a place to shine...Plus someone with dyslexia may mis-read the cover of Carp World and get a chuckle out of it...
