I was looking through some of my older fishing trips and came across these pics from a trip to Iceland...my wife and I were thinking about a return trip next year.
I left 5 days earlier than my wife, got a guide with a 4x4 and headed to a rustic cabin in the uplands...Arnarvatnsheidi. Having spent over 4 decades in Hawaii, I've eaten and love dried fish...so I tried some of the local dried cod which is almost always consumed with beer. This dried cod was as hard as a piece of timber...Icelanders must have the most robust jaw muscles in the world...
We grilled up some Icelandic hotdogs...basically bacon wrapped dogs sitting on top of potato salad. My guide said the best ones were at gas stations everywhere...and to quote him..."they ain't shit"...
Iceland gets most of its electricity and hot water from geothermal...outflow streams like this are common. You can see people laying in the 103 degree water in bends of the streams drinking beer in the 40ish degree weather...
Blue Lagoon...they say the silica rich water has restorative powers, which must be true; after a couple beers, I felt great (wait, that was yesterday)...
