NFR I saw a rat in my yard.

Non-fishing related
If you want to use kill traps such as the Victors, use a bait such as cheese, NO Peanut butter if there are squirrels around. Try to enclose the trap so that only rats can find it. PS: watch out for your fingers when setting those traps.

Thanks for all the input folks! Thankfully I have no rats in my home or garage (yet), but there is a locked up storage shed nearby that is perfect for rats. I can see the rat holes going in and out. Surprisingly, I have only seen one rat very briefly, and caught one rat so far, so I am hoping to nip the problem in the bud, but I may be overly optimistic. There is a large house cat that strolled through, and was very curious about the trap that killed a rat. Perhaps I was low holing his rat hunting grounds?

I'm tellin' ya. My cat is brutally viscious. I've watched him hunt. He always has a dry cat food bowl, which he hardly ever eats out of. I've tried to feed him dang near every kind of meat an animal would literally inhale. He eats a few bites of ham or tuna, but he never wolfs the whole thing down. He actually prefers the "fresh meat" of his daily hunting endeavors.

Once I was fishing for Small Mouth bass in an irrigation canal near Yuma Arizona (believe it or not). When suddenly my girlfriend came running up, all freaked out, about a giant rat that swam out of the water and went right by her. "He was this big!!! He came from deep down under water!!!!" I was like OK???? Turns out the canal had "Muskrats",,, and they are huge, and they do swim underwater. They also have a very desirable pelt, and my girlfriend seriously wanted a pair of Muskrat slippers (tail and all). I have seen them here in the San Juan Islands and had to look them up to see if they are present here in Wa. One big ass rat for sure.
