I know she put them somewhere

I'm missing an extra spool and 3 lines for my 8wt outfit. I'm certain my better half put them somewhere.

You see, I have this system for placing things in the most convenient and obvious place for their next use: the kitchen counter, on top of the TV sub-woofer, the curio table by the front-door, on top the washing machine, etc. She says that I'm scatter-brained and drop things on the nearest horizontal surface. The fact is that I have a finely tuned system that I starting developing during my teenage years. She has never understood this strategy of mine. As a traditionalist she believes that kitchen counters are for 'kitchen things' and curio tables are for 'curios' and so on. I see the universe as a collection of atoms with no meaning or purpose other than what human minds ascribe to them. So, for instance, the "dining room table" is a "perfect place to stretch and clean my winter fly lines". Who's to say which is right?

At any rate, these items will show up, in a 'junk' drawer, in the jacket that I wore when I last used them or with the rest of my fishing gear out in the garage... some non-obvious place. I was thinking about getting a new 8wt reel and a few new lines anyway... that'll show her.

I have a similar situation; my spouse is all about keeping stuff in the 'right' location...versus my general slob approach to organization.

But, after 54 years of connubial bliss we have established boundaries about what can be placed in certain areas controlled by the respective parties. Kitchen counters, dining room, her craft rooms and the front room flat surfaces are areas that cannot be used for extended outdoor gear storage, while the squalor of the garage, my shop, flybench (within the rolltop and material storage cabinet) and den cannot be subjected to any sort of 'neatening or straightening up'.

You are truly blessed. I would gratefully give all to still be faced with that conundrum.

She's travelling up to Portland to visit with a couple of my daughters today. Been gone for about 3 hours and the place is already really starting to take shape: rain coat is hanging on the door knob of the back-door, my keys, jack-knife, wallet and tic tacs are on the kitchen counter. Pretty soon this place will be so optimized for convenience that I'll be able to squeeze at least 25 hours out of a single day.
