I don't know if anyone else has noticed ...

I suspect the very large corporation that bought the site (and owns hundreds of others) is actually quite used to this phenomena. Internet search engines will be directing FF websurfers there for years. Some will join, others will lurk, and most probably take a brief look and leave...but ALL will exposed to advertising and/or provide valuable market niche clicks to the commercial enterprises VS sells data to.

Interesting business model; acquire well established web forums, harvest its commercial value, and move on if the original withers, all the while acquiring additional established forums.

I doubt it. Ads aren't lucrative without massive volume and most of that volume comes from us; the people who open the site many times a day. If it was a treasure trove, Chris wouldn't have needed premium accounts etc.

This is probably a very rare event for them; few have the motivation and/or capacity to set up their own competitor. IMO, they have lost a lot by us all leaving and I think it is hilarious.

I just hope Chris had a straight buy out and not some BS royalty deal.

Yeah not tooting our (meaning myself, Billy and Josh) own horns, but it takes a certain type community to do what we did. I would wager that the vast majority of online forums don't have many, if any, members that have the combination of technical savvy and willingness to set up a new shop across the street before the dust even settles on the old place. On top of that, most would also lack the networking and ability to quickly bring everyone else along.

This was kind of a perfect storm. I doubt they've seen an exodus quite like that before. I saw the same takeover happen at ifish, and despite initial grumblings about it, then more grumblings when the forum functionality changed (which will happen on WFF), things kept chugging along, even if it wasn't entirely the same as before.

I don’t quite understand that whole argument. I understand intellectual property but not the fuss being made. I’m a photographer. I figured out a long time ago if I didn’t want folks stealing my images and all the hassles of getting someone to stop using an image I should probably not post it on an open forum. Common sense?
the trouble with having common sense is you have to deal with the people that don't have it

try to understand i was registered on the forum about 15 years before earning my living on my IP.... and considering the forum never let you remove content.....

some of the images I posted long ago have licenses that have been sold to others. I have also posted my professional portfolio on the website.

but the truth is its not really about the threat of someone stealing my works, its about the principle of having control over them.

VS simply "claimed" the right to use and redistribute anything you ever posted on WFF, for profit, and you dont get any say in it....

Yeah, but Dustin is arguing they will/could steal his ”professional work”. I have had to have sites take down some of my images that were essentially stolen from me. In every instance it only took an email or two. Like I stated before I quickly learned if I didn’t want someone else to use any of my images or the hassle of stopping it I shouldn’t post it to a public forum. On the other hand sometimes having an image used by others can be beneficial and flattering if proper credit is given.
I think that's the problem, not giving proper credit. Had to deal with that from a writer on STS taking one of my photos off another board. I don't mind posting IP for people to look at but not steal for personal gain.

That's called the Jack Welch School of Business

We can fund this site entirely via sales of NFT fish posing photos. Start up the block chain function.

I’ve got a quarter of eligibility left, so I’m holding out for a NIL deal after going into the transfer portal after playing at WFF for 18 years…. ;)
