When fishing in saltwater, I clean my line after every use. As soon as I get home ( 5 min from the beach), I strip all the line/running line out through the guides onto the driveway, then turn the hose onto the line, rod guides, etc and slosh the rod/reel in a 5 gal bucket of water, I grip the line with a dry cloth as I wind it back on the reel...takes me all of 5 min, and I've never had a problem with corrosion.
Once/year I rinse all my lines in warm, mild soapy water (not detergent...I don't want to remove the existing lubricants), wipe dry and dress with line dressing.
