Hypothetical question here....opinions?

That was my first thought as well but anymore what I crave the most is relaxation and the mountains of Montana is the most relaxing place I know.

Yeah give me a warm summer evening on a river in SW Montana. Bugs are out, guides are off the water, and just the sound of the moving water. Yeah, that's about as good as it gets.

In reality, if I had 10K for a trip and the rules didn't say that it was JUST for me to use, I'd probably take the family (or maybe just the wife...) to somewhere nice in HI and just enjoy some fishing there in the mornings and hang out on the beach all afternoon. Wouldn't get me super amazing fish. But it would be a new adventure for me + a warm relaxing romantic trip with my lady (something we are overdue for). Or hell, even a fun trip with the kids.
Do it while you can, Josh. I am quite certain that I am not the only one here that would give absolutely anything to once again be able to make that choice.

I'd probably blow it in the states. I just love the trout here! Montana, Wyoming, Colorado. Then I'd see the Catskills and just keep going!

So, my idea after reading all this, goes back to Magdelena Bay , Baja. Panga or kayak fish the mangroves for golden trevally and other brackish species.

Kinda funny.. my favorite spot in Montana is a campground over on the Big Hole. Not close to any great fishing really, just a relaxing place to be. No pressure to do or be anything.

Well except for the one time we rolled in there in the dark and missed the campground closed sign on the reader board :)

My favorite spot is pretty much anywhere I can park a camper right next to the water Love fishing out my front door.

The first thing that came to mind was a week on the Babine, because I love big steelhead and it's difficult to access much of that river without a sled. My second thought was Argentina. My wife would go to the warmer places so those are a possibility, but Northern BC or Argentina probably not.

For 10k I would do a week in baja for big pez gallo, then a week in CI for Ulua, then a 3 days in Guatemala for Pez Vela

So many choices, I am not sure where to begin. I have been pondering Christmas Island, Chile/Argentina, Iceland, and an eastern Canadian province for brook trout. If fishing were not the priority, driving through BC and the Alcan again, spending a lot of time in the Canadian Rockies to explore more to the natural sites and history.

I dunno if it would be doable for under $10k, but Arapima would be really fun too!

I would go here!

I would do another fly in to a remote river in Alaska with a fishing buddy. Float and camp multiple days riverside. The fishing is amazing and once you get a couple days in you see more bears than people.

PM me if you really want to try to make a self guided trip to Alaska for sheefish work. That is a trip I would do again and 10K would help a lot with some of the logistics of it.
I have some ideas of how to do this trip based out of ambler but I'd love to hear more about your insights.
