HRQ 6

Shaped the cork grip, stained it darker with a dark wood wax, fit the walnut reelseat, (square peg in a round hole!) put a couple of coats of walnut stain on the cane. Going to work on the snake guide feet now.

Well it’s spinning on the rod dryer right now. Wrapped with gold silk, one black sharpie trim band, I used Mike/Dave’s wrapping method using a fly tying bobbin…..worked great! Should be fishing it next week!

I devirginized HRQ 6 today fishing with Stacey…..C&R’d 11 rainbows and one big cutt with a type 3 sink and a fugly fly I call ass clown…..now I need to cast this with a dry line. I was impressed on how well it cast a wet line….and bent deep into the grip with some hard fighting trout!

Would love to see the rod!

I just lawn cast 6 with a 4wt Sylk……wow! This one just took over favorite Hotrod! Sings easily and accurately 60’ This would make an excellent transition rod from graphite as it has a fairly fast action. But probably wouldn’t get a fair chance because it’s 6’…..oh well!

I've seen the HRQ 6 in person. She's a beauty!
Steve even let me cast it. Well, if you can call what I did casting anyway. I'll blame it on being used to fast 9' graphite rods and the ass clown fly. 😁

You were casting just fine for the first time flinging bamboo Stacey! Especially something from Hotrodz! You need to cast it with a dry line next time…..and catch a fish with it!
